Video

Urban setting schools seem like a difficult place to teach. There are so many different cultures and situations going on that makes up the school atsomsphere, how can you encourage from poor communities, or negectful homes, to succeed in school? When the teacher had to call the police about family violence than the social worker came and took the student away without even a goodbye affected me. I wouldn't know where to start to tell his/her friends the reason why they are gone.
My goals for my future students is that they gain the knowledge they need to survive in their world, or gain skills and knowledge to move up in life. I want to be a safe haven for my students, and a person they can come too when their is difficulties in school, or just life.

Facebook Assignment

On facebook i found an educational organizaiton called ECHO, Educational Concerns for Hunger Organizaiton. This group is about finding ways to fight hunger throughout the world using education. I think joining this group, or ones like it, is a great way to get involved and stay connected with what is actually happening in the world.

Growing Up Online

I believe that the impact on children are good and bad. Good because they have more access to information and studying tools, they can be in contact with distant family members and far away friends. It is bad because of the access the children have to sites that involve nudity, sexual content, death, or any other dark and unhealthy things. Yes I worry about where this will take our children, letting them have full access to the enourmous world of the Internet is asking for trouble, but it opens so many more educational programs and information. I do not know how I would survive without the internet, especiall facebook because that is how i keep in contact with my family, but when i look at other peoples profile i worry about their activities, and the lenghts they will go to just to get their video on YouTube. We as a country, and culture, is very violent, is the Internet do to that, probably, and especially all the games that involving killing. But now that we are past that point of return, so how are we going to fix it? How are we going to teach or children what is ok and what is not acceptable? As teachers it should be our duty to show students how to use the internet to their advantage, and what to watch out for when researching information. It should not be our duty to install morals and a sense of right and wrong, that should be the parents, and if it comes to that point where teachers are teaching morals than let's just let pray back into the schools, because that is about the same.

Distractions

One thing i noticed about using a computer in class is that you can become distracted and lose track of what you are doing. It is so tempting to go to a website and play games or check or email, and not do your assignment. If we are going to intergrate computers into our classroom we are going to have make them very elementary and just have the basics like word processor, excell, and slideshow; plus any other program need for the classroom. The Internet will need to be screened better taking off websites such as facebook, myspace, and gaming centers off and just have acces to educational databases, .org, .com, and .edu.

Teaching and Problems

Wednesday I taught my first class at the Middle School and I had put together a slideshow with links to youtube.com. Well when I was setting up the teacher informed me that youtube links do not work because the school had blocked the site. I felt that this was a big lost because there is so many educational videos and because other people felt like putting inappropriate videos on youtube teachers can not use these videos.

Slide Show

This week for practicum i have to teach a lesson so I decided to create a slide show of the important places in India. I thought it was going to be easy and fast, but to find out it has taken most of my time, because i have to research everything. I wonder how as a teacher i will accomplish intergrate technology into my classroom if it is going to take so much work just for a little slide.

In practicum my teacher used the Slilde Show program to write out a time line, it seemed like the screen on the SMART Board was full of clutter, next time maybe he should use Microsoft word because you can use different text styles and sizes, plus many other things, and it is not as cluttered as the slide show program.
